The original Mariner was designed back in 1987 as an early pocket knife to be used and carried every day (what we now call "everyday carry" or EDC). That was also the same year Chris Reeve made the very first, wildly popular Sebenza down in South Africa so very early on in the movement.
When Bob reached out to us last year wondering if we'd be interested in doing some sort of collaboration, our collective minds immediately fixated on the Mariner since someone on the team picked one up at a flea market back in 2014 and fell in love with the design. It's a model with a distinct style and storied history, we already had one on hand, and the challenge of bringing it back into production was the perfect excuse to partner with one of our idols.
This is the first offering in what we're tentatively calling our "Heritage Series" in that it's a classic design reimagined for modern tastes and machining techniques. The Mariner 2 pairs a MagnaCut sheepsfoot blade with a Grade 5 Titanium handle that doesn't take over your pocket.
We did our best to maintain the OG Mariner's aesthetic and spirit but scaled it down to comply with the sub 3" knife laws, added a 3D machined pocket clip with Bob's trademark Etz Nab dragon head engraving, lowered the footprint, and swapped in a dovetailed thumb disc to create a modern throwback and testament to precision machining.
Priced at $429 MSRP, the first production batch will be available for purchase starting July 2024.
